The Renewal that Spring brings ~
Hi Lovely,
I've been a bit of an introvert lately, I think the whole pandemic has me feeling more subdued, less talkative & more mindful that what we each say has an impact.
I've watched people argue endlessly on the internet, call each other names ~ I see frustration, worry & concern for how safety and security. I've also seen people helping each other from the goodness of their hearts.
We are all doing our best in times of trouble. Some of us may look back at this time proudly, some not so much. We each have to live the way we see fit & to do what we each feel is right.
I am watching the Derek Chauvin trial, it's uncomfortable and hard, but I think it's important that I do not turn away. George Floyd's death is making me re-examine everything.
I'm in my legacy years & perhaps more reflective about everything now. I'm studying Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and golly, IT IS TOUGH!! I thought that as a WOC, BIPOC, with my lived experiences that I'd breeze through it. What I am learning is that I have SO much more to learn & I appreciate the kindness of the professors who extend the students' grace to get their understanding up to speed. The nuances are amazingly intricate & there is no one size fits all.
I have also joined in to attend the Nlaka'pamux Cultural Meetings each month. I'm very excited to hear Elders' stories, have access to resources & hear our language. I will start studying our language later this year, after I complete the DEI & the Indigenous Studies at the U of Alberta, hopefully by end of Summer.
I'm also taking care of foundational things, including myself. That means intentionally caring for myself, making sure I am nourished, getting a good night's sleep & exercising. My daily walks with Princess Shilo are becoming lovelier as the sun has come out & I'll be able to remove the winterizing drafts throughout my home.
What are you doing these days to take care of yourselves, your loved ones & how are you navigating some of the negativity?
Take care of yourselves, make healthy choices & stay safe,
Cydney, Princess Shilo & Chuk
