I have been reflecting on the fact I am turning 60 in a short 20 days … and I had a lot of random, funny and curious thoughts popping up.
Remembering running through the forests picking huckleberries & climbing up 60 foot Douglas Fir trees in our neighborhood, having my worried parents talk me down from the treetops as I wanted to touch the sky.
Clambering over slippery wet river rocks in the Capilano River with my dear childhood friend Kenny, looking at tadpoles, watching the salmon swimming upstream and spawning, the sun dappling on the river.
Wasn’t I a sweet 5-year-old just 5 minutes ago?
Being woken at 4:30 every morning to eat breakfast and get ready for skating, and getting on the quiet ice for patch to do my figures, then changing my boots for freestyle. I flew on the ice, training, laughing, learning intricate footwork, spins & jumps.
I learned how to take care of myself so I could have all the energy in the world to jump higher, skate faster, to reach for the stars.
And thank goodness as I needed to use it to heal myself from my skating accident, to learn how to walk again, to apply myself to what was to come next.
Thinking about my career in fashion, the coverage in magazines, the different collections I did from Irving Samuel, Edwin Jeans, Rouie and more… I loved designing my own collections and I am deeply grateful for having sold my designs all over the world.
It’s been a fabulous 60 years.
